Round 13
The narrow loss on Saturday at the hands of the Magpies must be described as a lost opportunity in term of the season given other results. Player commitment could not be questioned , the execution of skills must be. Port, with the Power's Wilson playing an influential role, held on for a four point victory.
Our first quarter against the wind was fantastic and should have set the game up. Excellent use of the ball, creative run from defence, it all augured well - especially when Port couldn't buy a goal. Unfortunately for us the second quarter was a replica of the first, but the roles were reversed. Port chipped short, ran, kept possession and scored into the wind. The Roosters registered 7 behinds straight and squandered the advantage held at quarter time with scores virtually tied away. The game opened up in the third quarter with Port ramming home eight goals leaving the Roosters with a 17 point deficit. From then on we needed everything to go according plan, always close enough but never quite there finally going down by less than a kick.
Better players included Clint Alleway, always a target up forward, Rhys Archard had plenty of the ball, Trent Sporn across half back and Leigh Ryswick with his pace and run.
Goal Kickers Alleway 3 , Younie 2, Thompson 2.
Main Possession Getters Ryswick 25, Archard 26, Allan 22 & Sporn 18
Port, boosted by the return of several senior players, overcame our Reserves by 27 points. Spirited yes, but not good enough on the day. Many of our younger players continue to play good footy in the hope of a senior berth.
Better Players
Ricky Ebert - just continues to be best or amongst the best, Zac Millar - talented young player with improved fitness levels , Todd Pfeiffer - amongst the best again [plus 3 goals] Tim Delvins - always gives his best and Rhys O'Keefe.
Injuries to report - Wade Thompson should be OK. David Clarke - knock on the knee
To the challenge of this week- Glenelg Seniors [ Top] and Reserves [3rd] will be formidable opponents. Great challenge for our boys in front of what will be hopefully a great crowd.
