Round 9
 |
In what was probably one of the toughest weeks at our Club since Andrew started, our league boys responded by recording a gutsy win against the Eagles at Woodville. Last week’s loss against Norwood really shook our Club, but after a long meeting between Andrew and the senior players on Monday night there was nothing but positive energy around the Club. Training was the best it had been this year, so the senior players need to be congratulated for the way they responded to the home truths Andrew laid out.
We went into the game with seven changes, the most since Andrew’s reign. The most pleasing thing from the club’s point of view wasn’t just the way the League responded but the way the players that had been demoted also responded by performing well in the Reserves. The “In’s” included experience and youth, with Ward, Clarke and Wakelin all fitting in beautifully to our structure, then came the two young excitement machines in Wade Thompson and Marlon Motlop, both performed the special things. The scary thing for the opposition is that if these two boys can maintain consistency they will only get better as they gain that confidence to play at League level.
Congratulations to the Club as a whole and Andrew and his players in particular for the way they responded, let’s hope that the win now provides North Adelaide with the suitable platform to attack the rest of the Season.
After the week off for most of the boys (except for Allan and Alleway, congrats boys), we face Sturt Football Club at Unley. Their comprehensive win against our boys early in the season is still very much in our memory and we look forward to atoning for that loss at their home ground. Please get to ground and cheer on our boys!
Goal Kickers: Younie 5, M.Motlop 3, Archard, Wright, R.Ebert, W.Thompson 2, Alleway, McIntyre 1.
Main Possession Getters: Archard (34 Possessions), Wright (31Poss), Sporn (25 Poss), Allan (24 Poss).
Andrew’s Best Players – Wright (Is getting better and better, great young player), Archard (Really showed glimpses of his class under pressure), Allan (his clearance work in the last quarter was magnificent), Sporn (Plays well all the time), Alleway (Was great at CHB on Grocke (who was soundly beaten), then went forward and played extremely well and beat McGregor)
After a tight first half, the Reserves ran away with the game in the second half to record another good win and firmly stake a claim at the top of the ladder. As mentioned earlier it was great the way the demoted boys responded with O’Brien, Ivens, Stewart, Grose and Walker all being named in the Best Players.
Goal Kickers: O’Brien, Stewart 3, Coulter, Delvins 2, Ivens, Sandland, Martin 1.
Main Possession Getters: O’Brien (33 Possessions), Ivens (28 Poss), Walker (25 Poss), Starke and McGahey (22 Poss)
Scott’s Best Players – O’Brien (responded well, at only 21yo will bounce back, and force his way back into the League very soon) Sandland (A Country kid, who really shows a bit, got pace and hardness which is hard to find) Stewart (Presented really well, some strong grabs, this 19yo can play), Delvins (This kid is ready).
