NAFC 2009

Round 7

You can’t give good sides a start and expect to win, and that is what we found out against Glenelg on the weekend. The 8 goal to 2 goal head start after the first quarter was too much to reel in, even though we outscored the Tigers by 16 Goals to 13 Goals in the final three quarters, it wasn’t quite enough.  The Tigers are the deserved Premiership favourite at this early part of the season, they are very well drilled and play a very even team game.

As with all this season so far, we are very proud of the way the team dug deep and came back at the Tigers, but we have to play more of a four quarter performance to record a win.

Six games in and we sit 3 – 3, while we would have loved to be 4 – 2 after this weekend, the SANFL competition is so very close this year, and we have to bounce back and look forward and not behind. We have shown all season that we are certainly good enough to match it with any side, we just need to start to string a run of wins together.

Goal Kickers: Younie 5, D.White 4 Alleway, O’Brien, Allan 2, walker, Archard, Wright 1.

Main Possession Getters: Allan (35 Possessions), Lonie (24 Poss), Archard, Ivens, Wright (All 21 Poss).

Andrew’s Best Players – Allan (Back to his best, won plenty of the hard ball), Younie (Got us started in the second quarter, Classl), Wright (Really stepping up to League Football, huge talent), Sporn (Wish we could have 5 of him, plays well everwhere) Damon White (A real power forward, that is dominating the SANFL)

The Reserves put in another consistent performance to record a win against a very good Bays outfit. It was the return of many familiar faces last weekend, with Gill, Wakelin and Coulter all playing Reserves, all three performed well and will only strengthen our depth, when we consider League selection. Gilly looked as if he hadn’t missed any games this season, and looks ready to resume in the League this week (providing the AFC agree)!

Goal Kickers: Gill, Davis 5, Schubert 2, McGahey, W.Thompson 1.

Main Possession Getters: R.Ebert (36 Possessions), Millar (27 Poss), Coulter, Martin (22 Possesions).

Scott’s Best Players – R.Ebert (Another great performance, just has to bide his time) Delvins (Has worked on the things that Andrew has told him, and getting very close to a recall), Davis (A real talent, Strong marking key forwards are really hard to find), Coulter (Back from a broken thumb, and will push for League selection this week).

Injuries from weekend

S. Motlop – Hip – 2 weeks

Long Term Injuries

Matt Krieg  – Tightness in Hamstring – Test– Matty was tight on Thursday’s training, expected to be available for selection this week.
David Clarke (Back) – Available – David will start his career with NAFC in the Reserves this week, after his horrific neck injury he has been training for two weeks, he will be so important to our League side, so hopefully he has no complications in the Ressies over the next few weeks and can win a spot in the League soon after.
Daniel Ward – Hamstring – Available – Daniel trained fully all last week and is ready to resume.
Chris Ladhams – Neck – 3 Weeks – Recovery is slow, but we hope he can start running this week.
