NAFC 2009

Round 5

scoreboard

The League had the commitment but not the skill in our game against Centrals on Anzac Day, we dominated in contested ball and tackles, and had plenty of the ball, but bad decision making cost us the result. Some of our more senior players let themselves down with poor disposal and when you play the better sides they will make you pay.

Having said that it was our best performance for the year so far, in terms of attack on the ball, which is very pleasing sign, if we can maintain that attack on the ball and refine our decision making we will start to get to that level that Andrew and the players expect.

It doesn’t help losing Motlop, Ladhams and Ward from the Port game before the bounce, but that’s football and we were pleased with the efforts of our young players in Wright and Cunningham who came up. With the return of Motlop, Ladhams, Ward and Clarke in the next few weeks, combined with the form of some of our Reserves players, we will not hesitate on making some tough decisions on players that are not performing to the standard expected of them.

Not taking too much away from Centrals who dominated the first term, we thought after that that we controlled all the Key Performance Indicators and Centrals really only got their goals from sloppy skills or poor decision making. Having said that we can take a lot away from our third term where we played somewhere near what is expected from the group.

Goal Kickers: O’Brien, Stewart, D.White 2, Alleway, Brown, Wright 1.

Main Possession Getters: Archard (30 Possessions), O’Brien (26 Poss), Wright (25 Poss), Allan (24 Poss)

Andrew’s Best Players:
Sporn (Was given the job on Callinan and held him to only 6 touches which was a great effort), Archard (Improving with every game, will only get better), Wright (A great effort by a young player, who if he continues to work hard will cement his place in the League), McIntyre (His work at CHB was again outstanding)

The Reserves had a tough tussle, really only getting away from Centrals in the last quarter. Again the players are really putting their hands up for League berths which are a great sign.  It was good to see Daniel Ebert return from his knee injury. Welcome back Ebo! Also welcome to senior football to Phil Davis and Jonny Boras, both showed they were not overawed with the opportunity.

Goal Kickers: Davis 4, Millar 3, T.Armstrong, Boras 2, Mallard, McGahey 1.

Main Possession Getters:
McGahey (29 Possessions), Martin (25 Poss), R. Ebert (25 Poss), Delvins (25 Poss), Armstrong (24 poss).

Scott’s Best Players: T. Armstrong (Played his best game for the Club so far, has an exciting future), Martin (Got back to playing his Role, really gets the Hard Ball), Davis (4 Goals in his Reserves debut, was a great effort), Ricky Ebert (Certainly putting his hand up)

This week we face South in a "must win" game for both grades, hope to see you there!
