Round 4
 |
The League pulled off a courageous win yesterday against a fired – up Port Adelaide outfit, once again we were left with no bench, with Ward and Damon White injured in the first quarter and Motlop injured in the third. So it was a great win considering the obstacles that was put in front of Andrew and the Players.
Port played strong tough football, and we are probably still a touch scratchy, but this win will certainly put us in good stead for the rest of the season, the boys know they can dig deep when required. So while we have a good record of late at Alberton, to once again get the “two points” no matter how close it was, was very important for the group.
Andrew did pick some best players and they are below, but it really was a real team effort today against the odds!
Goal Kickers: Alleway 3, O’Brien, Stewart, Motlop 2, Wintle, Archard, Allan, Younie and Ladhams 1.
Andrew’s Best Players – Allan (35 touches, and some real important ones in the last quarter, it was great to have him back), McIntyre (His job on Ah Chee at CHB, after Ah Chee was dominant early, was excellent.), Sporn (Really leads the Back Line, and so cool under pressure), Ladhams (Once again really worked hard for 31 touches in the midfield). Special mentions to Alleway, Motlop, Archard and Ivens.
The Reserves also had a good win, while the game was full of turnovers, getting the two points was all that mattered. It was good to see Walker return from injury and kick four. Also Daniel Ebert returned on the weekend from his knee reconstruction, he played with his brother Simon at Uraidla, and was named in their best. We look forward to Daniel getting back into the reserves this week.
Goal Kickers: Walker 4, Thompson 3, Grose 2, Delvins 1.
Scott’s Best Players – O’Keefe (Still U18’s but has great future ahead of him), Cunningham (Really knocking on the league door), Wade Thompson (once he gets that fitness base, he will be exciting us in the league in the near future) and Gavin Grose (has overcome his injuries and is certainly in consideration for league). Special mention to Ricky Ebert, Todd Pfeiffer and Marlon Motlop.
This Friday we play our first Anzac game for many years, it is a great privilege to play on this important day in Australia’s history. We come up against last years premiers, and really look forward to the challenge. Hope to see all the Rooster Army there!
