Sunday Football at Prospect
Many members have contacted the Club via Virtual Runner or in person regards the transfer of two home games later this year. The following provides further information :
Port Match
Most members accept the rationale behind such a move
Glenelg Match
As explained, this decision recognises an opportunity to promote a standalone fixture in terms of the SANFL fixture. To attract a crowd, the match has to involve a Club which is going well , it could well have been Glenelg Sturt or Centrals at this stage and also fit the AFL program.
In any given year our Club would like to schedule a Sunday fixture to enable us to invite all our District Clubs and Country Delegates to attend - an impossibility under Saturday scheduling as they are all involved. With a Sunday fixture, it also enables us to target all those associated with football at that level. Over the last three years the SANFL has promoted a District Footy Round , but Prospect Oval has yet to host a game during this promotion - we have requested same going forward.
The other aspect of programming which is of interest involves the large number of supporters who cannot attend on a Saturday, many of whom have also contacted the Club in support.
Summary
In recent years our Club has been very proactive in many areas as we seek continuous improvement. The scheduling of two Sunday games can hardly be interpreted as a departure from the preferred position of Saturdays , but the football landscape has changed. The outcome is quite simply , if it works the Club does it again, if it doesn't - we don't.
