A New Season, A New Era
Our Mighty Roosters completed a solid Pre-season under first year coach Daniel Healy with an impressive victory over South at "Polar Park on Saturday. It was a great experience for all Roosters to see and use Polar Park before it freezes over for the winter!"
The playing group and coaching staff have been hard at work over summer, desperately seeking atonement for a wasted 2008 season. It began with the appointment of Daniel Healy as senior coach. His playing record speaks for itself! We have a strong list of recruits. The first being the talented Damon White who signed a substantial 4 year contract, thus moving from a valued part-time Rooster to a valued full-time Rooster. Another high quality signing is Cain Ackland. We have been crying out (I know I have ) for a high quality big man. Brett O'hara was "ridden into the ground" in 2008 (and not surprisingly , ridden off to hospital at a crucial point !). Welcome to all new and exciting recruits, who are virtually household names around a Roosters dinner table already! Farewell and thankyou to all departed Roosters. Luke " The Helmeted One" Ivens is one such departure, but hopefully he will be back after a year of teaching and trekking through the U.K. and Europe (with his helmet on for protection I trust).
After a First Round Bye, The Roosters Revival is on in earnest with an intriguing Home Match against Centrals, the reigning Premiers. It should be a beauty and a great way to christen "The Daniel Healy Era"!
As I move into my 6th season of reporting on our Beloved Roosters, it is important to me to let you all know that I am speech and hearing impaired. If you see me around, in the Taj Mahal ( My , nickname for the fabulous Disabled facility) , pestering Barrie in The Merchandise Booth or freezing my backside off at Polar Park , my best form of communication is to give the thumbs up ( "like the Fonz"). I remember vividly after we won the 2007 Preliminary Final I was giving the thumbs up to everybody on the way home!. My regular football report typist, Fran has jetted off to Nepal for an " Everest Experience". Fortunately I have a few back up typists warming the bench. When Fran showed me her Nepal itinerary I read it and said , " well that looks absolutely NEPALLING!
