Round 11 - Solid Response From Roosters

Our Mighty Roosters, determined to make amends for last week's debacle, met The Bloods at Prospect on Saturday. No more changes from announced line-up except for the "out then in again AFL boys", which has become a regular occurrence. (Why Port have no use for White or Lonie is beyond me!)

In the 1st stanza we shot it forward immediately. Wright got a free and quickly moved it on. Allan and Archard combined to boot it to a contest at half-forward. Stewart marked strongly and goaled. West replied minutes later. After a few fruitless passages, North built from defence. Allan got it to White. His kick to Emu Territory saw Gill mark strongly and convert. After beautifully intercepting an errant West kick, Younie then missed his bread and butter. He made amends minutes later. Another good run from defence saw Ryswyk boot it in from the flank. Gill dished it off to Younie. The Unit ran on to drill it. West missed a couple of chances for their 2nd. Across half-forward, Wakelin set up Ward to be flattened like a pancake (or a flapjack!) Fortunately Ward got a free. He played on to Lonie, who found Younie, Bang. Goal. WHOOSH!  Straight out of the middle again, Krieg passed to Younie. He got a free. His kick to the square was gobbled up and goaled by Wright. We moved it forward from the back again. West's Cupido booted it directly over the line in the pocket. "Throw in" said the umpy. It didn't matter, we won the stoppage and Allan put a pin point pass to Stewart. He goaled. Our sixth in succession had Allan in it again, he booted it to a contest. Ward got it and snapped an absolute blinder! A brilliant start had us leading 7-3, 45 to 1-5, 11.

In the 2nd term, early sorties were denied. Younie missed one after a good run from half-back, which began with Budgie copping an elbow to his beak! Alleway strongly marked the resultant kick in and passed to Archard to goal on the run. West missed a couple of sitters. It was contagious as North piled on the points. In time on White bombed it forward to find Ryswyk unattended. He drilled it from 20. An inaccurate term still got us further in front, 9-12, 66 to 1-7, 13.

In the Premiership Quarter, the Roosters were on the Board in under a minute. Allan executed another bullet like pass to Younie. The Unit gobbled up his Bread and Butter. After winning a reversed free kick in defence, O'Brien followed it down, gathered it again and sent a lovely pass to Gill on the flank. Emu scored. It was all North. However West broke through for their 2nd goal and they followed this with 2 more. North were having a mid-term smoko, until a good hustle on the wing involving Krieg, Allan and Wright, who put a pass to Alleway. Allers took a lovely diving catch in the Gully, a la Mathew Hayden! He banged it through. Minutes later, West were clearing defence. Delvins skilfully intercepted, dished it off to Damon White. Stewart strongly marked White's kick and converted. West got one more to make it 4 a piece for that quarter. Lemon-time scores North 13-13, 91 to West 5 -13, 43.

In the last Stanza, we ventured forward immediately. Gill received a free. His kick to the square was roved beautifully off hands by Younie. He booted no 4. After a few minutes of ‘aerial ping pong', West got 2 in succession. Minutes later West's 50+ trainer got bowled over on the wing when he got in the road (perhaps he thought he was Dexter Kennedy?) Dexter gave away the free. Further on, O'Brien received a free. He found Alleway on the lead. Allers drilled it. Moments later Younie, O'Brien and Ivens combined on the wing to send it to Emu Territory. Gill took a lovely leaping mark. He slotted it. West got a reply. On our next sortie, Stewart flew into the stratosphere and came back down with a slice of Moon Cheese (everyone knows the moon is made of cheese!) Back on Earth, centre wing to be exact, Delvins and Wright moved it to the pocket. Ivens took it off hands to add a goal to his impressive CV. for the day. Moments later Cupido got a lucky bounce, he did a ‘jig' and scored. Strange behaviour when you're 10 goals down! Brett White in particular remonstrated with Damien! The Bloods scored again. The Roosters finished strongly with the final 2 goals; Allan, Gill and Ivens figuring prominently.  Cue The Fat Lady in the Big Red Dress! A solid response from Our Mighty Roosters. The final scores, North 19-13,127 to West 10-14,74

PS The day was tinged with sadness as Lads announced his injury enforced retirement. Christopher Ladhams, I salute you and will sorely miss your "LUDICROUS" exploits each week! Especially those in THE LADHAMS POCKET at Prospect!
