Anyone Seen One of These Before
Following our posted item late last week about the little Rooster footballer figurine, I have received two responses from very keen Rooster members regarding this item.
Firstly, I received the below communication from Andrew Pearce... I am sure he won't mind sharing his explanation with other Rooster fans. Andrew's e-mail is replicated hereunder.
Regarding your article about "Anyone seen one of these" and the featured Ginger Meggs figurine, it brought back memories. Many hotels had these dolls prior to the Crows entering the AFL. There would be 10 dolls in the colours of each team in the League, as there were 10 sides in those days, and they would all be lined up on a shelf behind the bar in the order they would be on the premiership table. Each week, they would be adjusted and if the team won, they would face the front and if they lost they would be turned around to face backwards.
I guess there would still be a few of these floating around in the storeroom of a few pubs around town.
The second response below is from Ben Corby and he tells us that his father-in-law and fellow avid Rooster member{Zenek Dwulat}, {and I quote} "has the complete set of these figurines and he changes the line-up each week in accordance with the Premiership standings".
Onya Andrew and Ben, thanks for taking the time to share these insights with our readers.
p.s... Zenek, I truly hope that the little fellow adorned with the Red and White colours of your set remains at the top, or the front, of your line-up next season... Go the Mighty Roosters.
