NAFC 2009

Report for Interstate and Overseas Readers

A very good day at Roosterland yesterday readers with all four teams winning.

Our League side….defeated South by 15 goals 11 behinds {101} to 8 goals 6 behinds {54} at Rooster Park on a cold and breezy day in Adelaide.

We kicked with the aid of a slight breeze in the first quarter and led by 14 points at ¼ time and had increased that advantage to 20 points by the long break. A five goal to one in our favour saw us 7 goals in front at ¾ time and never in any danger of losing the match.

There were some good signs of improvement yesterday I thought and if we can build on that performance, then there is still some hope of some lasting September involvement by our Club.

Best players {according to the Sunday Mail} were Alleway, Allen, Lonie, Ward {very good I thought}, Archard, D. White, Cunningham, Wright and McIntyre.

Goalkickers were Alleway 5, Wright and O’Brien 3 each.

I was impressed with yesterday with the way in which our defenders attacked the ball……….I like to see that.

Full marks to young Damian Cunningham for a couple of examples of selfless courage displayed to prevent the opposition from getting the cherry.

Our best tackler for the game was young Wade Thompson with  4 for the day. And what about his electrifying run down the middle of the ground in the third quarter with his resulting kick falling a whisker short of being the goal of the year. Would have lifted the roof off the Prospect Park grandstand if it had gone through for a major {falling just short by the very narrowest of margins}.

The win yesterday sees us retain our fourth position on the SANFL Premiership table.

Next week we play Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday.

Our Reserves team…….saw a fair bit of this match and was very impressed with the way these boys are playing. They retain their second position on the Premiership table.

Scores were the Roosters 17 goals 12 behinds {114} to South Adelaide 9 goals 5 behinds {59}.

Best players were K. Thompson, Brown, Down, Wintle, M. Motlop, Starke and Walton.

Goalkickers were Grose 3 and 2 each to Wintle, R. Ebert and J. Wundke.

It was also good to see young Greg Gallman get through the game well and play a very important role in our victory.

Our U 19 team…..defeated South Adelaide at Panther Park by 13 goals 12 behinds {90} to 11 goals 6 behinds {72}.

Best players were Wooding, Baulderstone, Stephens, Beasy and Renshaw.

Goalkickers were Beasy 4, Williams 3 and 2 to Renshaw.

Our U 17 team…..defeated South Adelaide by 11 goals 13 behinds {79} to 8 goals 15 behinds {63}.

Best players were Keller, Craig, Maher, Jarvis, Harney and Hay.

Goalkickers were Craig3, Ai-Sarawi and Uglesic 2 each.

These boys are third on their Premiership table.

My other favourite teams from around the State……unfortunately the Adelaide Crows went down in Brisbane last night by 13 points and the Mighty North Whyalla Maggies play later today {Sunday}.

Those to record victories were the Crystal Brook Roosters, the CMS Crows, the Adelaide Uni Blacks the Walkerville Cats and the Greenacres Club.

That’s it for this week readers, but I must conclude by saying again, a much better all-round performance from our League side yesterday {but still room for more improvement}.
