Uton George Dowe {born 1949}
I read in a cricket publication recently, The Complete Who's Who of Test Cricketers, by highly renowned English cricket writer / commentator, Christopher Martin Jenkins the following summary.
The book contains a précis of the career of every Test Cricketer to have played the game.
It records of Uton George Dowe {born in Jamaica} that he played 4 Test Matches for the West Indies, he made 8 runs, took 12 wickets at an average of 44.50 per wicket and that he made three catches in his short career.
"A solidly built right-arm, fast-medium bowler, with a fierce appearance and long run, Uton Dowe played at home against India in 1970 / 71, New Zealand in 1971 /72 and Australia in 1972 / 73 , without establishing himself in the Test Team. So wild was he when bowling against Australia that the Jamaican crowd invented the eleventh commandment, which they continually shouted out when he ran in to bowl................
'Dowe shalt not bowl'.
Hardly something you would enlarge and place on the mantelshelf for all to see is it ???
